Navodaya Vidyalayas are the residential and co-educational schools in each district fully funded and administered by the Govt. of India. They provide free boarding and lodging, expenses on uniforms, text books, stationery, to and from rail and bus fare upto kids home etc. They are founded on the belief that education is intrinsic to human development. Their significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target group and the attempt to provide them with good quality modern education comparable to the best in a residential school system without regard to their family's socio-economic condition. They ensure all round development of the personality of the children by including a strong component of culture, awareness for environment along with good facilities for Sports, NCC, Scouts & Guides, Adventure activities, and Computer education etc. They focus on to assure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages. National integration through education, integration with the immediate neighborhood through pace setting activities and integration with regions other than one's own through student exchange programmes are some of the other goals on the charter of Navodaya Vidyalayas. Throughout the journey from setting up of Navodaya Vidyalayas till now, they are working as the focal point for improvement in quality of school education in each district and are bringing out the best of rural talent.
